New Westfield shopping centre - the impact on stations

Here are some statistics about the new Westfield shopping centre due to open at the end of this month in the White City / Shepherd's Bush area. This will clearly have a big impact on workload for station staff, particularly at White City, both Shepherd's Bush stations and the new Wood Lane station. It gives some context to RMT's concerns about the inadequate planned rosters and staffing levels at Wood Lane.

RMT reps are meeting with LUL management to discuss this on Thursday (9 October).

The Westfield Shopping Centre is still on schedule to open on Thursday 30 October. The expected number of visitors ("footfall") for the opening is 150,000-280,000. On the first Saturday (1 November), the expected number is 300,000 or more.

The Shopping Centre Car Park holds 4,500 cars, so most visitors will need to arrive and leave by public transport.

Many of the shops have started the on-site staff training today, Monday 6 October. These will add to the current onsite workforce of over 7,000.

Shepherd's Bush Station re-opened on 5 October, and the new London Overground Shepherds Bush Station about a week ago.

LUL plans to open Wood Lane Station on the Hammersmith & City Line this Sunday, 12 October.
